The most common types of network devices include hubs, switches, routers, bridges, gateways, modems, repeaters, and access points

A Computer network devices are the hardware components that connect computers and other devices together to enable communication and resource sharing. These devices operate at different layers of the Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) model, a seven-layer framework that defines how data is transmitted over a network.

Each computer or device on the network is a node. Wired LANs are most likely based on Ethernet technology. Newer standards such as ITU-T G.hn also provide a way to create a wired LAN using existing wiring, such as coaxial cables, telephone lines, and power lines.


Here are some of the most common computer network devices:


Network Interface Card (NIC):A NIC, also known as an Ethernet card, is a device that allows a computer to connect to a network. It is installed inside the computer and provides a physical connection to the network cable.


Switch: A network switch is a hardware device that connects devices on a computer network and manages the flow of data between them. It learns the MAC addresses of the devices connected to its ports and forwards data packets only to the intended recipient. Unlike a hub, which broadcasts data to all connected devices, a switch improves network performance by reducing congestion.



Router: A router is a more complex device that connects multiple networks and determines the best path for data to travel. Routers use routing protocols to exchange information with other routers and create a routing table that maps network destinations to outgoing interfaces. This allows routers to efficiently forward data packets to their final destination, even if they are on a different network.





Modem:A modem modulates and demodulates signals so that data can be transmitted over a physical medium such as a telephone cable or coaxial cable. Modems convert digital data from a computer into analog signals that can travel over the cable and then convert the analog signals back into digital data for the receiving device. There are different types of modems, including cable modems, DSL modems, and fiber optic modems.


Access Point (AP):A wireless access point (WAP), or simply access point (AP), is a device that creates a wireless local area network (WLAN) allowing devices to connect to the network using Wi-Fi. An AP connects to a wired network and broadcasts a wireless signal that devices can connect to. Multiple access points can be used to create a larger WLAN coverage area.

Firewall:A firewall is a security device that monitors incoming and outgoing network traffic and controls access between networks. Firewalls can be hardware devices, software applications, or a combination of both. They are used to protect networks from unauthorized access, malware, and other security threats.

These are just a few of the many different types of computer network devices. The specific devices that are needed for a network will depend on the size and complexity of the network.
